Question 1

What is the minimum SEER2 efficiency requirement for HVAC in Greensboro, North Carolina?

Accepted Answer

In North Carolina, central air conditioning and heat pump systems must meet regional Southeast/DOE SEER2 ratings, typically 14.3 SEER2 for split air conditioners and 15.2 SEER2 for heat pumps, with many homeowners choosing higher-efficiency 16 to 20 SEER2 inverter heat pumps for lower monthly utility bills.

Question 2

How often should HVAC air filters be replaced in Greensboro?

Accepted Answer

Standard 1-inch filters should be inspected monthly and replaced every 60 to 90 days. During heavy Piedmont spring pine pollen season or humid summer months, checking filters every 30 days and using MERV 11 to 13 rated media protects indoor air quality.

Question 3

Are there local utility rebates available for upgrading to a heat pump in Greensboro?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Duke Energy Smart $aver and Piedmont Natural Gas offer residential rebate programs for homeowners upgrading to qualifying high-efficiency electric heat pumps, which can often be combined with federal Inflation Reduction Act clean energy tax credits.

Question 4

Should I repair or replace my aging air conditioning system?

Accepted Answer

If your cooling unit is over 10 to 15 years old, uses phased-out R-22 refrigerant, or faces a major compressor or coil replacement, investing in a modern North Carolina Energy Conservation Code (NCECC) compliant heat pump is typically more cost-effective than continuous repairs.

Question 5

Are your HVAC technicians licensed and insured in North Carolina?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All service work is performed by experienced technicians complying with North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors licensing standards, EPA refrigerant guidelines, and full commercial liability and workers' compensation coverage.
